Portraits in Watercolours
Inspired by my birds, I moved onto humans. Ah, how humbling! Because I’m impatient, I worked in sets of three, so that I could let things dry a little between layers without having to really stop what I was doing. It’s amazing how hard it was psychologically. I am used to easy success. It was an excellent exercise for my ego. I keep meaning to return to the practice. Of all of the things that I admire, watercolour portraits are perhaps the art that catch my eye most often. I imagine myself in my last years spending all of my time with a paintbrush in hand. Once everything else falls away, I hope this remains.
